Our approach to WBGT monitoring

ONE COMPLETE SYSTEM, ACCURATELY MEASURING HEAT-RELATED DANGER

Our advanced hyperlocal Heat Stress (WetBulb Globe Temperature - WBGT) monitoring system combines sensory hardware with a highly intuitive and customisable digital platform.

From sensor to platform to app, all technology has been designed, developed and manufactured in-house by Sensling. In doing so we have also created a methodology for measuring WBGT that ensures accurate reading of heat stress dangers.

AirAbacus™ Two

Measures:

  • Heat stress - WetBulb Globe Temperature (WBGT)

  • Temperature

  • Humidity

  • Particulate Matter (PM) - main categories: PM u1, 1, 2.5, 4, 10

Ideal purpose:

Protecting individuals with heightened risk of illness and death from extreme heat due to nature of work, pre-existing health conditions and age. This capability also has the capability to monitor levels of Particulate Matter (PM), which can more acutely affect people with similar health, age and work-related vulnerabilities.

Basic specification:

  • Unit powered by a 5V supply

  • Integrates with a local WiFi connection

  • Device dimensions: 190mm (h), 100mm (w), 45mm (d)

  • Lifetime of the unit is over 10 years

HOW WBGT WORKS

The Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) is a crucial index for safeguarding individuals during heat waves. It combines multiple factors, including temperature, humidity, to provide a comprehensive measure of heat stress. This metric considers how effectively the body can cool itself through sweating and evaporation under various environmental conditions. High WBGT values signal elevated heat risks, prompting appropriate preventive actions.

For instance, in outdoor workplaces, sports events, or other physical activities, WBGT guides decisions on work/rest cycles, hydration strategies, and protective equipment. When WBGT surpasses safe thresholds, activity modification, increased fluid intake, and frequent breaks are advised to mitigate heat-related illnesses. Its multi-faceted approach ensures a more accurate assessment of real-world heat exposure, enhancing public health readiness and resilience in the face of escalating heat waves driven by climate change.

Sensling digital platform for WBGT

The Sensling digital platform is designed to put timely WetBulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) metrics and insights at users’ fingertips. Users can observe WBGT readings (along-side PM) in real-time as well as receive potentially life and/or injury-saving notifications from the inbuilt Alerts Manager.

As with the AQ platform, users can export data for external analysis if readings need further investigation, and has been intuitively designed to aid ease of use without the need of training.

All WBGT metrics taken from sensory hardware are tied to specific locations.

1.

Group networked sensors by region/area, purpose or type for cross-group analysis.

2.

Run data analysis based on comparisons, correlations, averages and events.

3.

Sensling’s AI-driven platform enables predictive WBGT capabilities.

4.

Embed widgets and visuals with programmable WBGT advice and instructions to enhance safety.

5.

Customisation is available to the interface, types of analysis and/or to incoming/outgoing data via API.

6.

MITIGATE RISK WITH THE ALERTS MANAGER

For users who can’t afford to miss dangerous changes in WBGT indicators we created Alerts Manager.

Inbuilt into Sensling’s digital platform, Alerts Manager immediately notifies users of problems as they arise in the environments they are monitoring. Alerts are sent via Push (app only), SMS or email whenever recorded levels breach preset criteria.

“Send-windows” are programmable so alerts can be received either continuously or within specific timeframes. It’s also possible to create alerts for specific sensors, groups of sensors or an entire network.
